ASH Door Furniture has joined Disability Confident
We have become a member of Disability Confident. It is a scheme designed to promote employment of people with disabilities and mental health conditions. At a recent networking event with Gedling Borough Council, there was a presentation from a member of Disability Confident and this highlighted the need for employers to support our current staff and create opportunities for others.
We currently have staff who have struggled with health concerns and mental health conditions. We currently have plans and risk assessments in place for each individual but it is always helpful to learn more. We hope that Disability Confident can support that.
The UK government’s Disability Confident scheme is designed to help employers recruit, retain, and support disabled people in the workplace. The initiative encourages businesses to be more inclusive by providing guidance on accessible recruitment, workplace adjustments, and staff development.
The scheme has three levels: Committed (Level 1), Employer (Level 2), and Leader (Level 3). Each level requires businesses to demonstrate increasing levels of commitment to inclusivity. By joining, companies can attract a wider talent pool, improve workplace diversity, and show their commitment to social responsibility.
For businesses like ASH Door Furniture, becoming Disability Confident could enhance our reputation and help us build a more inclusive workforce. It’s worth considering how we can apply these principles in our hiring and workplace policies.
